Lido Cantarutti

Born of an Italian family from the Friuli region, Lido Cantarutti grew up in the San Francisco, California Bay Area. He completed his higher education at the University of California in Berkeley, earning both a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Romance Languages and Literature, and being accorded "Highest Honor" and Phi Beta Kappa recognition at graduation.

After his education, he moved on to serve in the U.S. military, followed by a career in corporate life, in the fields of marketing management and human resources. Throughout his career he has maintained an enthusiastic interest in Italian cultural studies and activities. Twenty three years ago he was first exposed to a fledgling Italian film program at the College of Marin. Sparked by the potential he saw for showcasing both the greatness of Italian artistry, as well as the deepening of understanding of the "Bel Paese" in 1980 he quicky became involved in growing the idea. The design of the offering, as a "Festival", with live entertainment, introductory explanations of each show in English as well as Italian, and the personal "family style" greeting of guests, came to be his brand & formula for growth.

In 1989 Mr. Cantarutti was honored by the Italian government with the conferral of knighthood, with the title of "Cavaliere" or "Knight" of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic. In 1995, for his many years of service to the community of Marin through the presentation of his program in the area, Mr. Cantarutti was named Marin County's Italian-American Citizen of the year. In 1996 he received the Friulian Award of Merit.
